How To "Green" Your Business

Commute
Carpool
- Start a carpool bulletin board and designate carpool days.
Consider giving employees that carpool some type of reward.
For example, designate the best open parking spaces for employees that carpool.
- Do you have a company vehicle? Why not make it a hybrid!
Satellite or Home Office
- A satellite office may be a possibility if your company
has employees commuting long distances.
Marketing tasks such as monthly sales catalogs may be accomplished
from home or a satellite location.

Recycle and Conserve
Buy and Use Recycled Paper
- EZ Pick! Use recycled paper whenever possible.
Using recycled paper saves up to half the energy and 90% less water.
You stop the release of 5 lbs of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
for each ream of recycled paper you use.
Product cartons, shipping boxes, invoices, marketing materials, copy paper,
stationery and envelopes are all viable candidates.
Paper Conservation
- Print on both sides of the page when possible for billing statements and invoices.
Your customers will appreciate the commitment to keep resource waste and costs low.
- EZ Pick! Consider the environment before you print emails.
- For more information on the different types of paper available

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle.
- Have recycling bins in place.
- Create a company recycling day once a year to help educate
employees about how to recycle cell phone batteries, etc.
Call 1-877-2-RECYCLE(1-877-2-732-9253) for more information.
Energy
Energy Use and Conservation
- Reduce greenhouse gasses and energy costs by using compact fluorescent bulbs. The compact bulbs work great for most desk lamps.
More information is available from the ENERGY STAR® "Change a Light, Change the World" campaign at:
Energystar.gov
- Conduct a company wide Energy Audit. Ask each department for ideas on how they can conserve energy.
For Example, turn out the lights when you are out of your office for lunch or a lengthy meeting. It's that easy!
- Use and invest in Green Power Options where available.
Check for local clean renewable energy options offered through your state or city.
Picture Puzzle Solution
It's a baby robin waiting for the parents to come back with some food.
Every picture tells a story: This photo was taken after a spring rain in the quiet lull before nightfall.
